About the project

The aim of this project is to express my imagination through sketches and writing. My mind's association with the brain coordinate delivering the storytelling. Some pieces of my past life inspired the story. It came naturally in combination with Dessau's environment. Each sketch by sketch I evolved and refined all the skills; research, sketching, noting, and presenting. I appreciate the process of valuing the concept of storytelling. My approach to storytelling changed completely after this project. I learned a more systematic and structured approach.

It was difficult for me to use the tools required for storytelling because I have an engineering background, but the learning process with the assistance of my friends was enjoyable.

Also, It presented me the opportunity to experiment with different storytelling techniques and illustrations.

Storyboard and sketches

After identifying the storytelling model (the hero's journey) with the help of our lecturer,  I started with initial sketches to experiment with the storytelling style. I decided to go with simple sketches (like the line drawing/hatching) and some simple words to illustrate the scene. I stick to very simplified words and images.

Illustrations

I followed a very simple illustration style using tools like photoshop (for developing hand sketches and composing page layouts) and illustrator for digital sketching and text. I decided to choose black, grey and white color.

An Experiment

As the name of our subject is „experimental storytelling“, I experimented with a paper cut technique to show the emotional change in my character. I used an image that shows both highs and lows. Then cutouts are made which configures with the consecutive page.

Poster

The poster design was especially tough for me because that was when I started using Illustrator and Photoshop. But on the go, it became easy and tamed. I redesigned the poster later to make it more complementary to the book design. I experimented with different line styles and dual-tone colors.
