First prototypes out of cardboard

Different kinds of slits for a bigger range of variations while creating a structure.

Creating the prototype in Rhino

Creating different variants to achieve the best result. Using guidelines to insert ornaments that are adapted to the shape.

First tests at the laser & findings

We used MDF Plates to make our systems. Trying the width of the slits in different sizes -> 3.0 mm works best. Roundings were too small and were later increased to 1.0 mm. Diameter of circle: 40.0 mm

26 finished elements

Ornaments work, giving the shapes interesting associations (e.g. Star Wars or oranges). They are easy to transport due to their uniform small shape.

Weakness & prospect

Interlocking elements break at certain points when higher pressure is applied. In the case of further development, the pattern would have to be adapted/reduced in size or a different material (possibly some kind of plastic) would have to be used. Otherwise, the interlocking systems works very well and often makes a pleasant click when plugged together.
