Ideation

I started sketching directly in Rhino and testing different shapes. I wanted to create a small and compact object. I quickly got stuck on this basic shape and created various versions of it. In the first two versions, I only added two slots. However, this means that the possibilities for assembly are limited. Therefore, in the third version, I created a total of 4 slots and removed the designs in the middle.

First try

With the laser cutter I cut out my third version. I was satisfied with the design itself, but it became clear that I needed to revise it again. The slots were too long, making it difficult to properly assemble the elements. In addition, the shapes at the edges were too large.

Second try

So I improved the design with Rhino and created my final element.

Interlocking system

This attempt worked very well. I had many elements cut out of MDF. On the first look the object looks angular. The resulting ellipses create a contrast.

All in all, I liked the project because it helped me understand the program better, and I could express myself more creatively than with the project Aggregates.
