Medieval Armenian scripts were written by the so-called tsakhkoghs, which literally means a flowerer, a person who turns something into a flower. The word tsakhkogh comes from the word ‘tsaghik’-flower, because the scripters would turn geometric letters and scripts into ornate pieces of art or, otherwise, would make it blossom.

Process

To further explore this concept, I used letters from the Armenian alphabet, which consists of 38 characters, to create my motifs. My goal was to design flower-like icons that represent the rose from The Little Prince.

Rapport

I used the motifs I designed to build a pomegranate-like structure, inspired by traditional Armenian bird-shaped lettering, particularly based on the Armenian letter „ր“ (r).

Patterns

I built my pattern based on the repetition of my rapport. Also, I have different color variations of my pattern for different uses.
