IDEAS

In the beginning I gathered some ideas, that I thought would look cool as a whole. So I wanted to do something kind of abstract and organic. It was supposed to look fluid. but it was hard to make it work as a system. I tried to use a grid with circles then, but it just didn´t have the same effect I wanted.

So i decided to make a different approach inspired by my dodecahedron.

PATTERN

The pattern I choose was made by a grid inside a square.

First I put the slots to plug it together symmetrical and mirrored on each side, so I can plug it in it all sides a connect it as a whole.

Then I designed my edges, by putting some abstract geometric forms at the edges wich balance each other out. Then I put a bigger and a smaller triangle mirrored to each other in the middle.

One surface is 8 cm x 8 cm

PRODUCING

I deigned the whole System in Rhino and duplicated one surface twenty times.

Then I lasered the patterns on MDF, wich worked with the first try.

FINAL PRODUCT

In the end I can connect all parts together and build a form in every dimension I want. The design is working great together because every edge is connected to another and in mirrored in a different way, wich makes it work altogether and has some similarity with „Bauhaus-Art“.

I like the way the my pattern is reflected in both my Elements and Aggregates, and has an assertive, abstract and bold character. And works in different forms.
