“Bollywood, based in Mumbai, has become a global industry. India’s entertainment moguls don’t merely target the billion South Asians, or desis, at home: they make slick movies, songs and TV shows for export.” (Rajadhyaksha, 2003) Ever since we moved to Germany and met different kinds of people, we observed that people perceive Indian cinema as Bollywood. The impact of this trend creates a loophole where Indian parallel/art-house cinema gets lost, resulting in significant neglect of these films and their filmmakers. Through this thesis, we want to create an awareness regarding the alternative to Bollywood; a space to spotlight Indian indie-films creating headlines with their outstanding achievements in the global sphere.
