Chataigne de Varenne is a company that aims to bring the french high class delicates Marrons Glacés, a glazed chestnut, to the global market.
It is well known in France due to its tradition, but in other countrys people never heard of it.
They produce in the small city of Varenne which is also the Name of Francois Varenne. The first man who wrote about the sweet.
Every year at Christmas eve the young Nicolas Jessa tasted a sweet that he had never seen before.
His french grandparents who cultivated the tradition of eating Marrons Glacés on that day were as surprised as Nicolas that it just didn't exist in Germany, the country he was living in.
Due to his constant demand for importing the sweet a friend of Nicolas once told him to just make them by himself.
Nicolas moved to Varenne a small city in France to produce there and the rest is history.
The front shows a tree growing different objects that connote the feelings and taste that emerge or „grow“ while eating the sweet like earthy or romance. Most of the icons are, like the main taste of the Marrons, connected to the forest.
This should make the sweet more tangible for people that don't know it.
Mostly it is only consumed by people over the age of 35 and a lot of existing packages look traditional and outdated.
Varennes modern design should make it more attractive to a younger target group.

- Au Chocolat: Glazed in chocolate
- Au Caramel: Glazed in caramel
Also representing the earthy and foresty taste of the Marron I chose warm earthtones.
The creamy background reminds of the traditional packaging.
Contrasting to that, the foreground colors are strong and saturated.
The brown outlines match the cap and symbolize a tree.
As main typeface I was looking for something geometrical and abstract, matching my illustration. - Hillhouse Medium
Titania was chosen for the logo because of its touch of a classic serif typeface. At the same time it is experimental and playful.
With every package of Chataigne de Varennes Marrons Glacés comes a candle. Peel of the backlabel, put the candle in the empty glass and illuminate the room in the warmest colors while eating the Marrons with your loved ones.
