Home – Illustration

The feeling of being „at home“ is very different for everyone. I grew up in a small village and spent a lot of time in nature during my childhood. When I think of my home, I remember my family and my village, and especially the animals and plants that I know from there.

Ideation

After thinking about various associations I have about the word „home“ I narrowed down a few ideas and visual concepts in a list and a mindmap.

Drafts

As a motif for my illustration I have chosen a combination of three animals: the mouflon (wild sheep), the swallow and the wood lizard. These are three animals that I associate very strongly with my hometown.

To get a better idea of the exact motif, I created a digital collage with photos of the three animals.

Final Production

To create the final illustration I drew all three animals with pencil, scanned them and put them together digitally. With brushes and watercolors I then painted color blobs and gradients, which I also digitized and combined with the pencil drawing.
