Ways of using Ai

The most prominent and polarizing tools that utilize Ai are Ai-powered text-to-image generators such as Stable Diffusion, DALL-E and Midjourney etc.

In the beginning of this project, I was blown away by the quality of their results while experimenting with prompting and trying out the different platforms.

Exploring Topics

In order to put meaning into my creations, I tried to think of topics where I could utilize this new technology. So I started creating Moodboards:

A different medium

Inspired by the artists CRSTLVNS and his procedurally generated art I wanted to do something similar, which would mean I would have needed to learn Houdini or Grasshopper. 

Thats when I got the idea to utilize Ai to help me learn quicker.

Which is where I started experimenting with ChatGPT.

Ai Learning Tools

In my opinion, the most universal of all AI-supported tools that impact the learning process is ChatGPT version 4.0.

ChatGPT-4 is an advanced AI text generator that has been trained to generate complex answers to questions using Deep Learning technologies. The input is human text input transmitted to the system through an interface, while the output is human-like answers to the posed questions, also in text form. In addition, ChatGPT is capable of understanding and converting text input into „ functioning“ code in various programming languages such as Python, Javascript, HTML, etc.

ChatGPT - usage Methods

The most basic usage Methods of using ChatGPT to help you learn are:

- General Tutoring, usually in the form of step-by-step guides

- Coding, where you can ask it to create code snippets for you and explain the codes functions in the desired levels of detail

Tested Scenarios

Some examples of scenarios I tested where ChatGPT can help you learn are

- Creating component setups for Rhino Grasshopper

- Python Scripting for Blender, Grasshopper, Houdini etc.

- Explaining Photoshop workflows

- Creating complex function setups for Microsoft Excel to calculate complex variables

- Building instructions for computers, tables or whatever you would like to build

Improving conventional learning workflows

Whereas ChatGPT acts like a new or revolutionary way of learning, there are tools that ease and improve traditional learning workflows.

With traditional learning workflows I refer to for example learning for university tests. Where you gather your tutors classes, take notes, summarize them and start learning either from your general summaries or use methods like flashcarding.

Mindgrasp - let Ai read, listen and watch for you

Mindgrasp is a platform that allows you to upload your rough learning content in different forms of media such as text, pdf, video, audio or also online class recording like Zoom or WebEx. Mindgrasps Ai then processes your uploaded content and interprets, understands and summarizes it. Finally, it is able to create notes out of the created summary for you.

So it basically processes the content you want to learn and puts it in a easy-to-learn format.

Revision Ai - the semi-automated, most efficient learning workflow

To optimize your learning workflow even further I would suggest to follow the common principles of:

- spaced repetition

- active recall

which are scientifically proven concepts that optimize your learning retention and improve deep understanding of the topics.

Traditionally you could utilize a software like Anki, create your own flashcards like back in elementary school and start learning in an, at least scientifically proven, optimal way.

Personal Impact

I personally use Ai the most to learn 3D Software that usually have an overwhelming learning curve.

In my opinion utilizing Ai to learn really helped to overcome that big mental barrier, providing confidence and an easy entry point to learn directly on projects u want to realize.

Learning with Ai also subjectively speeds up the learning process, making it less frustrating and more fulfilling.
