We recycled an old seat shell and made a hanging chair out of it. SaTaLi stands for the first two initials of our first names, to represent our Team.
When designing for the VorOrt, we were inspired by the artistic, yet rustic aesthetic of the space. We started by looking at changing the shape of the chair to add more visual interest to the space; eventually deciding on a hanging chair. We decided to add splatter paint to enhance the artistic look of the chair, while still showing off the wood. Since the wood used for the beams are a different type of wood from that of the chair - we painted the beams white to make a more cohesive look. SaTaLi has a focus on movement with the shape and function of the chair.
In producing the chair; we first cut the shape, in the chair, with a jigsaw. Second, we sanded the chair to remove the old finish and any defects. Third, using a bandsaw & sandpaper we cut & finished a rounded shape on the wooden beams (so they fit into the back of the chair). Fourth, we marked & drilled holes into the beams. Fifth, we painted the chair (pink, green, blue, & yellow) and beams (white). Sixth, we oiled the chair (twice). Seventh, we drilled two holes into the back of the chair. Eighth, we screwed the beams to the chair. Ninth, we cut and sanded two circles with four holes in them from some scrap MDF. Tenth, we fed the rope through the beams and the two MDF circles. Lastly, hang the chair!
