Aggregate is defined as a material or structure formed from a mass of fragments. The project Aggregates was leading us to get to know Platonic solids and design them new. Therefore we used the 3D software Rhino8 and a laser cutter. We used it to create an icosahedron, unfolded the net of the solid, and designed ornaments. So in the end we had two aggregates, on the one hand our model and on the other hand our aggregate of knowledge using a 3D software and designing the surface of our individual Platonic solid.
At the very beginning I did a research on the icosahedron. It is an complex form with a high symmetry. I was thinking about the effect of this Platonic solid. In my point of view the icosahedron is defined as an abstract multifaceted construct. In an conceptional way I connected the icosahedron with a human. Every human is individual and multifaceted. Human emotions are multifaceted. According to this idea, I created an abstract ornamentation which remembers to the symmetries of the human. Especially I took a deeper look to the human face. The basic shapes are building lines and interact with each other as the aggregates do.
In the end of the project I am happy to say that I can design simple shapes in Rhino8. Before the course I didn’t have any experience in 3D modeling, so learning Rhino challenged me. At the same time I understood what great opportunities offers the programme to visualize ideas. The process needed careful and precise work. I am thankful that I learned a new programme and a new perspective creating ideas. In conclusion I am looking forward to learn more about materials and shapes and hopefully connecting my knowledge in other courses.
