Our body is in a constant battle against nature, continually fighting against unwelcome diseases, cellular decay, viruses, bacterias, and all sorts of microscopic parasites. But our nature as humans is to outsmart nature. We have developed all kinds of medicaments for curing and fighting pain, to kill bacterias and viruses, to change and reprogram cells, control our emotions and feelings, edit genes, control the very code of life. Thanks to medicaments, we now live healthier, happier, longer, and very soon, forever. It is impossible to imagine life without the support and comfort of our medicines. Who hasn't taken one at some point?. They are part of us and our culture.
In this course, we will work with existing (or fictitious) illnesses, and their respective treatments. You will design and develop the visual communication of medicines (ex. Migraine drops, Anti-Loneliness pills, fast healing Band-Aid). Particular emphasis will be placed on designing interventions that can induce trust and hope on people that are ill. You will analyze and improve the usability of medical packagings, how to minimize risks of intake errors, and understand how to emphasize the semantics of the illness and the cure through visual design.
