Design detailed instructions for apparently simple activities.

BACKGROUND STORY

It seems that there is always a right and wrong way of doing things. From conducting the most public acts in front of everyone, like taking the bus, or opening a door, to the most private acts in front of ourselves, like taking a shower, we implement (consciously or unconsciously) a series of logical, sequential steps to avoid messing things up. We are constantly learning, practicing, and following steps of all kinds, explicitly or implicitly.

Manuals are meant to provide us with a solid and proven set of instructional steps, a sort of shortcut for overcoming chaos. The importance of Manuals, however, is quite often overlooked by companies. Manuals are usually rushed at the end of a project, poorly thought and designed. It is, therefore, baffling to hear those same companies complaining about why most users don't RTFM.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

You will design an instructional poster within two weeks. This one will show how to perform an (apparently) simple activity, like showering, preparing a coffee, rolling a cigarette, etc.

You will end this project with a solid Portfolio piece, showing your analytical skills, critical thinking, and capabilities to convey and design purposeful information.
