„The Ghosties“ is a family of characters, that are considered as gender free. Through daily life activities and posters, we aimed to show to the society how everyone can follow their dreams, be whatever and do what they want, without fear or discrimination.
We live in a world where gender roles have been constructed from generations, this brings inequality and discrimination into society.
So we formulate our research question as:
„How can constructed gender roles be unlearned through education?“
Our primary target group is children between 5 - 7 years old.
“In this age group, children are learning the “rules” of the world. As well, their thinking can be quite rigid and binary, which can lead them to take the things they observe and enforce them as common rules. For example, they may assert that “girls have long hair and boys have short hair,” based on what they see in the media they consume, even if they have an immediate family member who doesn’t conform to that “rule.””
An age-by-age guide to talking to your kids about gender - Today’s Parent 2021
Our secondary targets are parents, families with children, schools and educational institutions.
We created activities for each day of week to show Ghosties, so people, can do any activity regardless their gender.
There will be a website where people can find movies, facts and shop for merchandise products.
We decided to make a campaign as a channel for our physical presence. We aimed to emphasize all professions, emotions, practices and opinions for everyone regardless individuals' genders.
