During the summer semester of 2025, I worked on a project called “Hush.” The focus of the elective course was on light and the many ways it can enhance the atmosphere of motion and film.
My goal in the first place was to create an aesthetic video that stands out through its progressive use of light. Another aim was to develop a deeper sensitivity to light as a visual and emotional force in moving image creation.
✨ Ästhetic clarity
🌆 Beauty in the Background
💡 Atmosphere through Light
Showing how to Lose Ungracefully
During the ideation phase, I was fascinated by Besinski and some of his oil paintings. The ones I liked the most were those in which Besinski depicted people fully focused on the tasks they were doing, while the atmosphere and background still retained their beauty.
Another major inspiration for much of my work is Erwin Blumenfeld. I appreciate his experimental approach to using the camera, combined with the overall aesthetic of his work.
II really enjoyed working on the project Hush. It gave me the opportunity to process a lot of my own experiences with frustration regarding personal goals and ambitions. At the same time, I wanted to show that in the end it is not the result that determines whether something is “good” or “bad,” but rather the ability to keep the joy alive throughout the process. For me, it was important to visualize this mindset – especially as a way of protecting oneself from the impact a negative evaluation of a project can have. Most importantly, I wanted to emphasize that such setbacks should not influence or overshadow future projects.
