This is my love letter to Dessau-Roßlau. I wrote it on my eighth day of living in the city. A city where rusty statues hide on forgotten corners and old buildings, slowly subdued by the gentle seduction of Mother Nature. Here, you find trees as old as time, standing alone in the parks, flirting with crows. Here, nature knows it is being admired.
Roß & Lau is a tale of a Centaur who leaves his town and loved ones to pursue his dreams in the city, to drown himself in modern life. He thinks this is what he wants, but eventually realizes it is not what his soul truly seeks.
We live in a world where almost everyone sincerely believes there is something wrong with them,
that they need to be more of this and less of that.
More productive, less anxious.
More rich, more happy.
Less angry, less… human.
I wanted to leave a reminder to myself, something that tells me to reevauate my values every now and then. Hence, the tale of Roß & Lau :)
I chose a Centaur as my main character because in tales and legends they appear very masculine, and yet people overlook their other side.
When you have a message to deliver, and a character with some emotional characteristics, the story almost writes itself.
My only role was to add the flashbacks so that you could feel what I felt, and maybe resonate with the story as I did.
Firstly, I learned that free writing does real magic!
There is a difference between knowing the sun gives light and actually touching it.
If you love writing, or if you think you cannot produce anything without ChatGPT (!), please try a 5–10 minute free writing exercise (and not typing!). You will thank me later.
Secondly, storytelling is the key to connection.
To connect with yourself, with friends, colleagues… in some rare cases bosses (!)
With proper storytelling, you gain the power to change the narrative you tell yourself every day.
To shift your point of view and see the world differently.
A new perspective. A new self.
Lastly, it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Just start, and you will realize that the final result is as perfect as you are…
as perfect as a flower blooming,
as perfect as a flame dancing,
as perfect as a galaxy spinning.
And that is… simply, enough.
