The Bauhausfestival in September 2023 with its motto „mechanische Körperspiele“ (mechanical body games), will reflect on the works of Bauhaus student Kurt Schmidt, who initiated and created the mechanical Ballet, an abstract figurine performance, exactly 100 years ago.

With the mechanical ballet the utopia of the the Bauhaus stage era reflected the mechanizing, automation and standardizing processes by literally banishing the human performers from the stage ( see Schmidt: The human at the switchboard ).

Today we will have our own, modern view on this unleashed ghosts, what society created with technology to extend, enhance, augment, to “correct” the imperfect human being its limited capabilities and loss of control against aging, illnesses, death, sexuality, war conflicts, climate chance, etc. ( Burghard Duhm, Bauhaus foundation )

In this seminar we will explore the layers beyond these phenomena and boldly experiment with all kind of media to create interventions, performative and/or participative scenographic contributions to the festival -
eg, costumes, stage performance, techno :-) music, visuals, …

And we may even collaborate with other participants.

Das Bauhausfestival im September 2023 reflektiert das Werk des Bauhausschülers Kurt Schmidt, der vor genau 100 Jahren das mechanische Ballett, eine abstrakte Figurenperformance, initiierte und schuf.

Mit dem mechanischen Ballett spiegelte die Utopie der Bauhaus-Bühnenära die Mechanisierung, Automatisierung und Standardisierung von Prozessen wider, indem sie die menschlichen Darsteller buchstäblich von der Bühne verbannte ( siehe Schmidt: Der Mensch am Schaltpult ).

Wir werden einen eigenen, modernen Blick auf diese entfesselten Geister entwickeln, was die Gesellschaft mit der Technik geschaffen hat, um den unvollkommenen Menschen in seinen begrenzten Fähigkeiten und seinem Kontrollverlust gegenüber Alterung, Krankheit, Tod, Sexualität, Kriegskonflikten, Klimazufällen usw. zu erweitern, zu verbessern, zu „korrigieren“ ( Burghard Duhm, Stiftung Bauhaus )

In diesem Seminar werden wir die tieferen Ebenen dieser Phänomene erforschen und sehr selbstbewusst mit allen Medien experimentieren, um Interventionen, performative und/oder partizipative szenografische Beiträge zum Festival zu schaffen - z.B. Kostüme, Bühnenperformance, Techno :-) Musik, Visuals, …

Eine Zusammenarbeit mit weitere Akteuren ist geplant ( Prof. Dr. Alexander Carôt, Fachbereich Informatik )

Wie immer ist die Teilnahme an der Fertigstellung des Projekts für das Festival und die Teilnahme vor und während des Festivals obligatorisch! ( Ende August, Anfang September )
