Dessau-Roßlau: Stadt der grumpy Oldies und Teens on the run? Ist das wirklich so oder lassen sich gerade aus dieser Gemengelage interessante neue Wege des Miteinanders identifizieren? Wenn die Stadt etwas hat, dann ist es: Leerstand. Und dieses Potenzial soll im Großprojekt identifiziert und gehoben werden. Das passiert in Kooperation mit den Semestergruppen von Prof. Nele Zareh (Architektur, Städtebau, Stadt- und Regionalplanung) am FB3 und der Neustadt-Agentur. Wir werden die Dessauer Innenstadt erforschen, konkrete Räume und Möglichkeiten definieren und: loslegen. D. h. wir werden mit den Menschen auf der Straße ins Gespräch kommen und herausfinden, welche Aktivitäten und Formate in welchen Räumlichkeiten sinnvoll stattfinden könnten. Für diese Projekte benötigt es natürlich Wiedererkennbarkeit und Identifikation: und somit einen Markenbildungsprozess! Wie heißt der Ort bzw. heissen die Orte? Was macht sie wiederekennbar und charakteristisch? Wie ist die Sprache gestaltet, wie sind die Informationen, die Grafiken, die Illustrationen und die Bilder, die diese Räume und ihre Akteur:innen in die Stadt senden, designt? Welche Aktivitäten könnten dort bereits pop-up-artig stattfinden?

Das Semesterprojekt ist ein Teilprojekt im Rahmen des Projekts „Junge Stadtmacher:innen“, das über das Bundesprogramm „Zukunftsfähige Innenstädte und Zentren“ gefördert wird und vom 1. April 2023 bis 31. März 2025 laufen wird. In diesem Projekt kooperieren über vier Semester die beiden Fachbereiche am Standort Dessau.

„Ziel ist es, Städte und Gemeinden bei der Bewältigung akuter und auch struktureller Problemlagen („Verödung”) in den Innenstädten, Stadt- und Ortsteilzentren zu unterstützen, indem diese als Identifikationsoerte der Kommune zu multifunktionalen, resilienten und kooperativen Orten (weiter)entwickelt werden. Die geförderten Handlungsstrategien sollen insbesondere auch in experimentellen Verfahren und Formaten – mit sinnvoller Verzahnung zur Bund/Länder-Städtebauförderung – einen Beitrag für eine zukunftsfähige Transformation der Zentren leisten. Über das Bundesprogramm „Zukunftsfähige Innenstädte und Zentren” und die Förderung modellhafter Handlungsstrategien soll auch der Wissenstransfer zwischen den Städten und Gemeinden gestärkt werden.”

Das Gesamtprojekt soll also nach den zwei Jahren Laufzeit nicht versanden, sondern bestenfalls sollen sich daraus nachhaltige Strukturen entwickeln, die langfristig funktionieren und lebendig bleiben.

Dessau-Roßlau: City of grumpy oldies and teens on the run? Is that really the case, or can interesting new ways of getting along with one another be identified precisely from this mixed situation? If the city has one thing, it's vacancy. And this potential is to be identified and raised in the project. This will be done in cooperation with the semester groups of Prof. Nele Zareh (architecture, urban design, urban and regional planning) at FB3 and the Neustadt-Agentur. We will explore Dessau's inner city, define concrete spaces and possibilities and: get started. That means we will talk to the people on the street and find out which activities and formats could take place in which spaces. For these projects it needs of course recognizability and identification: and thus a branding process! What is the name of the place or the name of the places? What makes them recognizable and characteristic? How is the language designed, how are the information, the graphics, the illustrations and the images that these spaces and their actors send into the city? What activities could already be taking place there in a pop-up-like way?

The semester project is a sub-project within the framework of the project „Junge Stadtmacher:innen“, which is funded by the federal program „Zukunftsfähige Innenstädte und Zentren“ and will run from April 1st, 2023 to March 31th, 2025. In this project, the two departments at the Dessau site will cooperate over four semesters.

Quote from the grant notice:
„The aim is to support cities and municipalities in overcoming acute and also structural problem situations (“desolation„) in the inner cities, city and district centers by (further) developing them as identification assets of the municipality into multifunctional, resilient and cooperative places. The strategies for action supported are also intended to contribute to a sustainable transformation of the centers, particularly in experimental procedures and formats - with meaningful dovetailing with federal/state urban development funding. The transfer of knowledge between cities and municipalities is also to be strengthened via the federal program “Sustainable Inner Cities and Centers„ and the promotion of model action strategies.“

The overall project is therefore not intended to peter out after its two-year term, but at best to develop sustainable structures that will function and remain vibrant in the long term.
