EM Audio Walk – Site-Specific Storytelling
EL 4d Interaction, Installation, Moved Image

nur für Incom-Mitglieder

An audio walk is a guided tour where you listen to pre-recorded audio (narrative, music, sound effects) through headphones while walking along a specific route. The objective of this module is the conceptualization and production of an audio walk that renders the art and design history of Dessau audible within the public sphere. Participants will learn about research based storytelling and curate, write, and produce two distinct episodes for the audio walk:

  1. a theoretical-historical discourse centered on Dessau’s rich art and design heritage.
  2. a creative interpretation of a specific site – poetry, music, soundscapes, participatory elements, ASMR, …

Throughout the semester, students will master the complete production workflow for a guided city tour, from initial conceptualisation and archival research/interviews to creative writing and synthesising complex information into compelling narratives. The module emphasises the importance of precise information delivery, professional voice recording and the creation of atmospheric soundscapes.

Technical production skills will be taught in the Video Workshop (3.120), providing a deep dive into:

  • various microphone types, field recording, and professional sound design.
  • voice training to build confidence behind the microphone and navigate the nuances of vocal expression.
  • We will utilize AI for voice cloning, automated transcription and editing, digital restoration of noisy recordings.
