This one-week Expertise course is all about making and building. Together with a group of students from the Master of Integrated Design at the Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Architecture we will set out to parametrically design and digitally fabricate 1:1 pavilions and structures made from corrugated cardboard. Together we will explore methods of material and geometry driven form-creation using algorithmic thinking and design in Rhino and Grasshopper as well as large-scale digital fabrication using state-of-the-art laser-cutting technology. Since we only have limited time for extensive design explorations during the workshop, Detmold students will prepare a number of Grasshopper scripts to enhance and speed up the creative process. In interdisciplinary teams of 10-12 people you will then jointly design and produce stable and visually appealing systems to be installed and exhibited on campus.

In this course you will learn:

- basic parametric design methods using pre-developed scripts and tools

- preparation of CAD files for digital fabrication

- use and control of large-scale laser-cutting machines

- production and assembly of 1:1 pavilion on site

- team work and interdisciplinary communication and exchange
